How to keep your House and Body Cool this summer

With Summer showing its Blazing effect, we have to gear up to stay cool as dangerously high temperatures can result in heat-related illnesses ranging from heat cramps to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Whether you’re inside or outside, you should be aware of the heat and humidity and how your body is reacting to it.

If you take the proper steps to prevent heat illness, you’ll have no problem staying cool in the summer. Below are a few tips that will help you keep the heat away from this summer.

Keep your blinds/Curtains closed- On an average, 30% of unwanted heat in your home is coming through your windows via the greenhouse effect. Windows are a big source of the hot air to let in. So the simple solution to this is to keep the curtains/blinds closed during the peak hours of sunlight. Another alternative is to choose curtains or blinds of a lighter color as they will reflect rather than absorb the sun’s heat.

Swap your sheets - Seasonally switching your bedding freshens up a room, and is a great way to keep cool as different cloth have different properties. In summers it is highly recommended to use cotton as it breathes easier and stays cooler so your body heat can dissipate to the surface and sweat can evaporate. Similarly, avoid flannel sheets, fleece blankets, satin, silk, or polyester sheets during summer as they insulate and will be a better choice for the colder seasons.

Pick a loose and soft clothing - Opting for lightweight cotton clothing is the best option when it's scorching outside. Avoid dark colors and keep summery with whites and creams, as these are more likely to reflect the sun's radiation. It's important that your clothing allows air to circulate over your skin to cool you off, but you also want to be sure that your skin is covered to prevent additional sun exposure. If you are stepping out, carry an umbrella to be on the safer side.

Focus on the temperature in your body - Sweating can cause dehydration, making you more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Whether you are indoors or outdoors, your body constantly heats up during summer and drinking water throughout the day, can be enough to bring your body temperature down. Opt for natural juices enriched with Vitamin C, or Coconut water. Hot and spicy foods can increase your metabolism, acting like stimulants to elevate your body temperature. Food with a high-fat content can lead to more heat being trapped in the body by increased levels of fat stored in the cells. Taking cold shower will help you significantly to reduce your body temperature.

Planting plants - If you're looking for a natural, inexpensive way to keep your house cool, consider getting a few plants. Plants Indoors or Outdoors have proven to reduce the temperature of its surroundings. Indoor plants keep a house cooler in warm weather by consuming hot air for their natural processes and thus keeps the room cool, purified and fresh. It cuts down cooling costs down by adding humidity to the room. About outdoor trees, as we all know, trees absorb carbon dioxide and potentially harmful gases, like carbon monoxide from the air and release oxygen leaving the surroundings fresh. Planting trees or vines near light-facing windows will shield your home from the sun's rays and reduce the amount of heat your home absorbs. Properties from SMR Holdings provide almost 75% open areas for greenery providing peace and harmony.

There are many simple hacks to cool your house. Hanging a wet sheet in front of your window during afternoons keeps your room shady and cool. Be smart about your doors and open them when it gets windy to cross-ventilate the room. Power down unnecessary electronics as the use of electricity generates heat and warms up the room. Switching to LED lights rather than the traditional incandescent lights will also save you some money.

To help you beat the heat, SMR Holdings provide Swimming Pool, Indoor Club houses, and a 24 hrs Power supply to ensure summer passes by like a cool breeze.
